The plotline sounds innocent enough: there is a simple but stern Indian girl who shoulders responsibilities for the entire family. The show, however, has ruffled a few feathers.
The controversy surrounds the show’s title: “Hitler Didi.” This literally means “Hitler sister,” an allusion to the show’s bossy female protagonist. The blasé use of the word Hitler predictably didn’t go down well with many.
Zee TV’s show “Hitler Didi” started airing in India on Nov. 7. The show, broadcast on weekdays, is a story of a young girl woman, actress Rati Pandey, who becomes a “regimental disciplinarian” as she takes charge of her large family.
